THE DANGER OF DOING WHAT SHOULD NOT BE DONE

15 JUN 2025

“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”Psalm 127:1 (KJV)

We live in a world that celebrates activity, progress, and results. But God calls us to something deeper—divine alignment, not just human achievement. It is entirely possible to work hard, gain applause, and even see measurable success, yet be outside of God’s will. That is the danger of doing what should not be done.

The builders in Psalm 127 were active, focused, and dedicated—but their work was in vain because God wasn’t in it. It wasn’t about effort; it was about origin. Was it born from God’s heart or man’s ambition?

This principle applies to ministry, career, relationships, and personal dreams. We can build things God never asked us to, pray prayers He never authored, and fight battles He never assigned. And in the end, all our effort leaves us exhausted and empty because God never promised to bless what He didn’t start.

Doing the wrong thing “well” is not faithfulness—it’s disobedience with polish. Don’t mistake momentum for mission or popularity for purpose. Before building anything, stop and ask: Did God initiate this?

Personal Reflection & Activation:

  • What projects, goals, or plans am I currently pursuing?
  • Have I asked God whether these things are from Him or just for Him?
  • Is there something I need to stop doing because He never called me to it?

Take time today to submit your efforts to the Lord. Ask Him to interrupt your momentum if you’re headed in the wrong direction.

Prayer:

Father, guard my heart from chasing what looks good but isn’t Your will. Teach me to seek Your counsel before I make my plans. I don’t want to build what You haven’t designed. Help me to walk in step with Your Spirit, not driven by pressure or pride. I choose alignment over activity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
