Matthew 6:24 – “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Jesus’ teaching is clear and radical. The world constantly pressures us to measure success by financial gain and material possessions. But Jesus warns us that divided loyalty is impossible. When your heart is anchored in wealth, God’s kingdom takes a back seat. Money itself is not evil, but the love of money is a dangerous master. It controls your decisions, drives your anxieties, and distracts you from God’s eternal purpose.
Ask yourself: What motivates your daily labor? Is it purely your needs and desires, or are you laboring for something that lasts beyond this lifetime? God calls you to invest in things that hold eternal value — souls, service, character, and faithfulness. When you shift your motivation from gain to God’s glory, your life begins to align with heaven’s agenda.
Practical Application:
- Make a list of your current pursuits. Identify which are motivated by money and which by eternal purpose.
- Commit to praying daily, asking God to realign your heart’s desires.
Prayer: “Father, help me not to serve money or possessions but to seek You first in all things. Teach me to labor for what lasts forever.”
