Matthew 25:40 – “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
One of the most profound truths in the teachings of Jesus is that serving others is serving Him. In Matthew 25, Jesus does not point to those who preached in stadiums or who led massive revivals. He commends those who fed the hungry, clothed the naked, visited the sick, and welcomed the stranger. Small acts. Hidden moments. But they echo in eternity.
In a world obsessed with visibility and recognition, Jesus turns our attention to quiet, unnoticed faithfulness. A cup of cold water. A visit to someone in prison. A sandwich given to a stranger. These are not just good deeds—they are encounters with Christ Himself.
We must shift our perspective: the “least of these” are not distractions from ministry—they are the ministry. Your willingness to serve a child, a struggling friend, or a grieving neighbor is not just kindness. It’s kingdom work. And in God’s economy, no act of service is wasted.
Service doesn’t always require a platform. In fact, much of your purpose will be fulfilled away from the spotlight. When you choose to give your time, your ears, your strength, or your resources to help someone else, heaven takes note. God sees every diaper changed, every ride given, every prayer whispered for someone else. Eternal impact often looks ordinary on the outside.
You are not just “doing good.” You are touching eternity.
Practical Application:
- Serve Intentionally: This week, ask the Holy Spirit to show you one person to serve practically—someone who cannot repay you. It could be helping an elderly neighbor, encouraging a lonely teen, cooking a meal, or writing a heartfelt note.
- Journal the Impact: After serving, take time to reflect: What did you feel? Did it shift how you see purpose? What might God be doing through that act of service?
- Build a Habit of Service: Consider one way you can incorporate regular service into your life. Maybe weekly visits, monthly giving, or mentoring someone. Don’t aim for grand gestures—aim for consistent love.
Prayer: “Jesus, give me eyes to see You in the faces of those around me. Deliver me from self-centered living, and give me the heart of a servant. Teach me that every act of love, no matter how small, carries eternal value. Let my life be marked by service that reflects Your heart. Amen.”
